Do you remember River Cottage from off the telly. You know, the one with Hugh Fearnley-Whittingstall where he grows and cooks all his own food? Well it’s come a long way since then and the farm is now a hugely successful cookery school and events centre, based on 66 acres of Exeter countryside. Don’t think it’s just Hugh and his team in a country cottage – those days are long gone, but the River Cottage HQ still continues Hugh’s work with the same emphasis on campaigning for animal welfare and sustainability.

River Cottage HQ is an impressive organisation and they really know what they’re doing, especially with the food and cookery experiences they run. At the time of writing, they have 40 experiences, ranging from foraging for food in the local hedgerows or seashores, to beekeeping and butchery. You can buy quite a few cookery experiences too – cheese making, cooking with fish or game and baking bread.

It’s a seriously impressive range of food experience days and you’ll be paying a premium for the River Cottage name, but with the focus on quality and sustainability you’re practically guaranteed a pleasant, immersive experience.
