The Living Rainforest is a small animal park which brings the rainforest into greenhouses in the UK. Two experiences are available: Keeper for the Day and Junior Keeper for kids aged 14 and under. This junior experience includes a free place for an adult to accompany them too.
The experiences at The Living Rainforest are a laid back affair, in line with the friendly ethos of the place. All the animals who live there are available for the keeper experiences, but of course it will depend on the age of the participant and how the animals are feeling that day.
If you want to work with specific animals, make sure you request it when you go. Here are some of the animals it might be possible to include on keeper experiences:
Goeldi’s monkeys, pygmy marmosets, azara’s agoutis, armadillo, toucans, snakes, tortoises, turtles, lizards (water dragons, anoles), frogs, stingrays, aquarium fish and various bugs and insects.
The Living Rainforest has a resident sloth and that’s the good news. The bad news is that she isn’t officially included on the keeper experience. This is for two reasons:
- Sloths are classed as dangerous animals so no physical contact is allowed from members of the public. If you ask nicely you will be able to accompany a keeper and take photographs as they feed the animal.
- The sloth is free range and may hide up at the top of the glasshouse for several days.
If you love sloths, the park has a suggestion on their website:
What we suggest you do instead, is book one of our tailor made experiences, choosing other species that you would like to include and if the sloth is accessible, we will include her as a priority. If she is not, then you will still have plenty to do on the experience and avoid a wasted trip.
So if you don’t have your heart set on seeing Cinnamon the sloth, it’ll be a nice treat if she turns up.
